Spectracom PresenTense Network Time Management Software NTP Auditor Program S-e-ntp-pta-01 (30-day Trial Version) Installation Instructions and Summary of Operation: The "PresenTense Auditor" folder on this CD contains a file called ptademo.exe. On the PC for which you wish to generate Audit Trails, open the folder, double-click on the .exe file, and click "Run" to install the selected program on the PC. The Setup Wizard will walk you through the installation process. Once the PresenTense NTP Auditor program has been installed, you can open this program by selecting "PresenTense NTP Auditor" from the Start/Programs menu. After opening the program, you will need to configure the desired primary, secondary, and tertiary audit references. One, two, or three separate audit references may be used. The audit reference can be a Spectracom time server or an Internet time server. It is highly recommended that, if you choose to use a Spectracom time server as the reference, you use a different time server as the primary time source for the network. Using a differnet NTP time server as the time source for the network allows the primary time source to be "audited" as well. If you don't have a second time server, contact our Sales department at US +1.585.321.5800. To use an Intenet time server as the reference source, the PC must have access to the Internet. 1) To configure the primary, secondary, and tertiary audit references, click "Services" on the bottom of the screen. Choose "Network Configuration" on the left side of the screen. To configure an Internet time server as the audit reference, choose a time server from the drop-down list. To configure a Spectracom time server as the audit reference, choose "Local GPS Clock" (One, Two, or Three) and then enter the IP address of the NTP time server. Note: The NTP time server must be on the same subnet as the PC (or a gateway must be present) to be available as an audit reference. Set the "Audit Every" drop-down box to the desired interval at which the PC will be compared to the audit reference. This is the interval at which the reference will be polled for a side-by-side comparison to the PC. An unscheduled poll will occur if the time of the PC is manually set by a user. The program detects that the PC time has been manually set and will trigger a poll to capture the amount by which the PC time has been changed. 2) To obtain a hard-copy printout of the audit trail, connect a dot matrix printer to the PC's printer port. Click on "Service" and then on "Administration." Click on "Enable Line Printer" and select the LPT port number of the printer port. 3) To review the audit trails, click on "Audit Trails" and select Primary, Secondary, or Tertiary as desired. This will open a graph of poll comparisons. To view past data, you can select the month and day for the desired data range along the top of the page. 4) To review or capture the raw text file data from the audits, open Windows Explorer. The data files are stored in C:\Program files\PTAuditor. The files are divided into three folders (one for Primary, one for Secondary, and one for Tertiary) and are sub-divided by month and year in each of the three folders.
