SARBE SARFind
Beacon tracking system
SARFind, the SARBE G2R PLBPersonal Locator Beacon is a handheld device that can be used by individuals in remote areas in need of emergency services or rescue. A PLB will send a signal to the SARSAT satellites which then send that distress signal down back to Earth to the LUTs (Local User Terminals) which then send that information to an MCC (Mission Control Center) which can then dispatch search and rescue services to the location of the PLB./ELT decoder, provides the user with a position and identity readout of up to 64 individually tracked beacons. SARFind may be programmed to decode either standard SARSearch and Rescue transmissions or Combat transmissions (CSARCombat Search and Rescue entails the technology that allows individuals to request help and get rescued by using encrypted signals without the enemy being able to locate them. CSAR personal locator beacons are able to send signals for a search and rescue operation when in a contested environment.).
SARBE SARFind is a ‘Carry On – Carry Off’ unit that incorporates a rechargeable power source providing not less than 18 hours endurance with complete independence from the aircraft power system. Using SARBE SARFind simply involves connecting the integral headset lead to the aircraft communications system.
During operation, the SARBE SARFind front panel display provides the following information about the detected SARBE:
- Beacon Identity.
- Beacon position in Latitude and Longitude.
- Time elapsed since reception of last beacon transmission.
- Time of GPSGlobal Positioning System is a navigation satellite system. See also acquisition by beacon.
An audible alert tone is provided, which sounds when a successful position decode is established. This function may be disabled at any time by operation of the ‘ALARM INHIBIT’ switch.
The front panel display is optically filtered to give best viewing under adverse conditions. The display is NVG compatible.
