Case Studies: Synchronizing Services With a Public Safety Answering Point Terrebonne Parish (Louisiana) relied on wall clocks to provide less-than accurate time. As a result, CAD reports were depicting fire apparatus arriving prior to the call being received. Police and deputies’ times were equally as skewed. The Parish decided to purchase an Orolia NetClock solution. Terrebonne Parish now has the ability for its agency and remote agencies to add numerous items and offices for synchronization, ensuring that all their reports are accurate. pdf - 126 KB

Case Studies: Testing Confirms Resilient Timing Success: Underground and Indoors with SecureSync® and STL

Accurate and resilient timing is essential for critical applications. It is the fundamental requirement to synchronize operations. But what do you do when your GPS receiver is in a basement and underground, with marginal availability of GNSS signals?

This was a challenge for GMV, a global technology corporation that produces WANTime time service for the city of Madrid, Spain. They decided to test Orolia’s DISA-approved SecureSync® network timing and synchronization platform together with Satelles’ STL Satellite Time and Location Service to determine whether this combination of resources could serve as a backup when GNSS signals were unavailable.

Case Studies: GPS Timing Integration for Small Form Factor PDRS

Spectracom’s TSync bus-level timing platform was integrated into a new small, rugged, Passive Detection and Reporting System (PDRS) to receive GPS, discipline an onboard rugged ovenized crystal oscillator and generate high precision time and frequency signals for system synchronization. It also delivers GPS coordinates for the system.

The development of the system greatly benefited from Spectracom's customization-to-COTS approach by adapting the platform into a standard VPX-based card without the need for non-recurring engineering charges. It offered the necessary ruggedization, small size, and low weight and power consumption to meet the goals of system portability, and is available with secure SAASM GPS.

Case Studies: A Hierarchical Timing Topology Gets a Sporting Chance to Improve This Distributed Network A live sports broadcasting enterprise with multiple sites and a distributed network was getting its time references via internet time servers, including regional NIST and NTP pool servers … and it wasn’t working out. Their applications were very sensitive to time sync delays, and their time traffic was passing though insecure firewalls. They needed to do better.  Orolia suggested an enterprise hierarchical timing topology instead, utilizing multiple layers: a time reference layer, a time distribution layer, and a client hand-off layer.
